Chicken Soup for the Soul or Fast Food Art Live

There is hardly any need to explain the rationale behind the phenomenon of fast food. In some ways we are all Americans, and indeed, a consumer-oriented society is on the top 10 list of our modern system of values. There’s another thing that we share in common: when we think time we mean money; when we think art we need money, sooner or later. Art, in its turn, is the best investment in eternity. The spokesperson of  the evergreen and the soul’s best friend. Well, I have a shortcut for you:

Fast Food for the Soul

Ingredients:

5 pieces of framed canvases size 100õ80  cm

5 pieces of framed canvases size 120õ100 cm

5 pieces of framed canvases size 150õ150 cm

3 pieces of framed canvases size 175õ 145 cm

3 pieces of framed canvases size 200õ145 cm

2 pieces of framed canvases size 200õ200 cm

5 pieces of framed canvases size 265õ 200 cm

For the stuffing:

2 sets of oil paints, standard tube size of 250 ml each

2x1.5 kg of white oil paint

3 bottles of turpentine

3 bottles of diluting agent

Recommended cooking equipment & kitchen supply:

1 set of oil paint brushes

8 pieces of dyers’ brushes: 4 of them medium, the rest - large size

1 microwave

1 videobeamer,

1. screen, size 3x4 m

1 digital camcorder /cameraman

1.wireless minicam/webcam on the head of the artist

1. videomixer

1 microphone & 1 speaker

1 PA system

It is your choice of venue, but a spacious picture gallery, preferably the size of the ‘Raiko Aleksiev’ gallery in Sofia will do fine by me.

Preheat the gallery to boiling point. For best results hang the empy framed canvases on the walls, with price tags on each canvas. The tags indicate the nominal price of each empty framed canvas, average estimates for stuffing and  production costs included.

Place the microwave on a pedestal in the middle of the gallery.

Welcome into the gallery visitors and connoisseurs of Ventsi Zankov, who were invited to attend the event.

Weight the ingredients and calculate the cooking time. For best results Ventsi Zankov presents tentative production cost to the public, including:

    1. The price of preferred ingredients and stuffing;
    2. Production costs: 2 euro per minute until the painting is ready.

e.g. A framed canvas size 150õ100 ñì will come up to 30 EURO/60 BGL (retail price). Should the visitor’s wish be that a picture is made for him/her on the spot for a total of 10 minutes, the production costs will amount to 20 EURO/40 BGL. The average estimate for oil paints needed to cover the size of canvas in question comes up to 4 EURO/8 BGL . The total for this order will amount to 54 EURO/106 BGL.

This recipe is deviced to give visitors the opportunity to order a picture, decide on the timeframe and closely monitor the production cycle. All of this beautifully tailored to match visitors’ purchasing powers.

The mimimum timeframe for making a picture is 1 minute, that is the visitor will cover the production costs (2 EURO/4BGL) as well as the price of the framed canvas and the paints needed to cover the canvas within the chosen timeframe (1 minute).

In addition, this recipe allows for utmost transparency and accountability. The microwave timer will provide an accurate count of the negotiated timeframe.

Add, shake and … When ‘cooked’, the pictures will remain in the gallery until the exhibition is closed down. The original price tag will be replaced with a new one, indicating the name of the visitor who placed the order (and who holds the copyright over the picture), and the timeframe within which the picture was made.

The visitor who placed the order and who owns the picture shall not,  under any circumstances, have the right to take the picture away before the closedown of the exhibition.

Pictures,  ordered during the opening day of the exhibition,  will be finished on the second day if the production timeframe exceeds half an hour.

A list for all placed orders will be drafted at the beginning of each day, and a raffle will be held to finalize Ventsi Zankov’s agenda for the day.

… serve.  The creative process will be recorded with a digital camcorders and projected to a large screen, size 3x4m, placed either inside or outside the gallery.

The record itself is considered to belong to another genre: the art of videodocumentary. The record will be made available to the visitor, who placed the order, upon his/er request and after additional price negotiation.

Tentative prices will surely comply with current international price quotes.

The Fast Food Art Live Exhibition will be open to visitors over a period of two weeks.
