VIDEO ARCHAEOLOGY I is the first round of an International Videoart Festival 
conceived and curated around a distinct but multi-faceted theme. 

CONTEMPORARY ARCHAEOLOGY explores the present through the lenses of 
tomorrow's past apparent in the work of many artists as cultural anthropologists 
have turned their backs on the continuing hype surrounding the so called 
fin-de-siecle. Archaeology is about piecing fragments together and making sense of 
a previous time. Most of the time this sense is a best guess, a probability. As the 
fragments age and decay meaning becomes lost. As with the standing stones in 
monuments such as Stonehenge, one can never know what they actually 
represented and were used for. 

Thus, the history pieced together by archaeologists may be fiction. VIDEO 
ARCHAEOLOGY I picks up video as its prevailing visual form of expression with 
the intention to speculate on the archaeological image of the present. The festival 
programme highlights video works created as if to predict the 'coin' or the 'tool', 
which our contemporaries would leave as an archaeological product of the times. 
The festival programme asks what kind of video findings will the future scientists 
discover through their excavations? What will the findings reveal about the close of 
20th century? Should future archaeology be so facts-driven, one-sided and 
indifferent to people's psyche as a method of research?

В програмата на фестивала бяха включени много филми,   
почти невъзможно беше да се видят без специално да си 
отделил време за да ходиш на прожекции. Така че 
екипът на списанието не може да вземе отношение, 
което да се основава  на изчерпателни наблюдения.   

За сметка на това, обаче бих искала да отбележа 
(Боряна Драгоева) , че едновременното случване на 
събития, които имат една и съща публика ("Край" -    
Интерспейс, Бетавил, Видеоархеология,VJ_DJ Парти) е 
вредно за здравето. Не само, че преяждаш - след 
продължително време на глад - но и въобще не можеш   
да усетиш никакъв вкус. 
Това всъшност би могло да е само мой личен  проблем, но    
не ми се иска да идва един продължителен период на "НИЩО НЕ 
СЕ СЛУЧВА". За сега има някаква вероятност нещо да се случи  
при нaстъпването на Year 2000, а може и аз лично да бъда 
изненадана от събитие, за което все още нищо не знам 
(много искам да е така).
Явно е, че съществува творчески и "кураторски" потенциал, 
който обаче се отприщва основно след вливането на средства. 
Това е нормално, като имам предвид нашето икономическо 
положение, но от значение също е това, че до сега липсва 
съмишленичество във желанието да се СЪЗДАВАТ неща след 
дългия период на разрушение(необходимо).
